A little Poem by Paula!
Overnight the snow it fell,
What a pretty sight but for many pure hell,
Slips and slides...
Some even fell on their behinds
But through it all the Ladyzone crew
Did everything they could to push on through
They walked on foot...
And even risked their lives
When the Ladyzone car slid down a hillside...
For a while things looked uncertain...
Indeed we all thought it was curtains...
But in a final act of determination...
One staff member known as the ‘Terminator’
Battled the elements and arrived on the scene
To ensure that our members could maintain their regimes...
Who is this person? They call her Marie with an ‘E’
And she has proven to us all you see...
That it is always possible to exceed our limits
Indeed at Ladyzone we will do anything to ensure that our members get their 30 minutes!
SLIMZONE – Due to the weather Slimzone has now started a little later than planned, the first session of 2010 is Monday January the 18th. If you want to join the club speak to a member of staff as soon as possible!!! We can try and get you into this session straight away. If you have missed the boat this time around our next 8 week session will start on Monday 15th March. |

DONT LET THE WEATHER STOP YOU!!!
The weather has brought Sheffield to a holt in the past couple of weeks but Ladzone are still going strong, hopefully we have seen the end of this now and we can all get back on track. A well done goes to all those members who have still got in to do their bit.
NEW CIRCUIT
Have you seen our new circuit yet? If not why not give us a call to get booked in to come and test it out for yourself, we have had a fantastic response to it, having removed the waiting times at the busy times throughout the day. It would be good to see all the old faces back in the gym.
SHEFFIELD FC LADIES
Ladyzone have become proud sponsors of Sheffield FC ladies, you may see some of the players on a Thursday night making use of the equipment here. So if you see a group of Ladies arriving on a Thursday night you all know who it is! Oh, and can you recognise who the star midfielder is?!
SLIMZONE - DON’T forget we have
our own slimming club now which took off well in December. We are starting another one this month so take a look at our posters in the gym for the exact dates and times. |

New Face at Shipley
Those of you who have ventured into the gym during the last couple of weeks will have spotted the new girl on the Ladyzone staff. I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Karen Halifax and I’m now managing the Shipley site. I am the owner of the Pudsey site, which has been growing nicely over the last 2 years and will be spending time at both gyms. I hope my experience at Pudsey will be an asset at Shipley and I look forward to getting to know all the Shipley members. Besides looking after two gyms, I also have two young children (three, if you include my husband) so if I’m looking haggard, you’ll understand why!
Don’t worry, Corinne, Michelle and Alyson are still valued Ladyzone staff members so hopefully you’ll be seeing plenty of all of us.
Karen
Ladyzone Eskimos
Just wanted to thank all the hardy ladies who braved the arctic conditions to still come to the gym. Just to name a few and sorry if I have forgotten anyone: Barbara Slingsby, Filomena Meola, Karen Griffin, Shida Yeadon and Sara Lount.
Hopefully the wintry weather is behind us so no excuses ladies, it’s time to get back to it! If you need a bit of motivation or a new programme, just get booked in.

WALL PUSH UPS!
"A great exercise for increasing strength in the upper body, effectively toning the chest and triceps. It is the perfect solution for those who find floor push ups too difficult or are unable to perform them due to joint problems/injuries."
Stand in front of a wall with straight legs hip distance apart with your arms shoulder width apart touching the wall in front of you. Start to bend the elbows and lower your body to the wall until your nose almost touches it. Straighten the arms and return to the starting position. Repeat the exercise 15-20 times (1 set) increasing to 3 sets or moving your feet further away from the wall as you improve.

HEALTH & LIFESTYLE COACHING
Who do you think you are?
by Karen Halifax |
Who do you think you are?
I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I firmly believe that in order to change your weight, you first need to change how you think. Any self-defeating thought patterns will automatically set you up to fail. However believe that you will succeed and you will have mastered the first key necessary to overcome your struggles with weight.
You hold powerful beliefs about yourself and these influence you, good or bad, and affect how you approach your weight. You might not be aware that you have a choice and control over your thoughts. But we all choose how we react to things and if you are overweight, it’s a sad fact but one that you need to face up to that you are choosing behaviours that encourage you to put on weight. If you want to change, you need to take responsibility for both being in the situation you’re in and also creating the body that you want. By accepting your role in your weight problem and acknowledging that you are accountable means that you understand the situation. It means that you comprehend that the solutions are within you. Because you cannot change what you do not acknowledge, I want you to think about the stories you tell yourself. Some people for example blame their weight issue on their genes, their metabolism, or on their food pushing relatives. They tell themselves that their
families would suffer if they imposed a healthy eating plan on them. Others believe that the power to lose weight and stay fit resides solely within themselves. And some people have the fatalistic mindset – it’s just my bad luck. These three different perspectives on weight loss control are characterised by:
Internal
You feel you have a direct bearing on your results through your own actions and you accept responsibility as well as credit for how things turn out. If you’re overweight, you’ll admit that you got that way because you did not eat right or did not exercise enough. You tend to make the majority of accountability for correcting your condition, including
making lifestyle changes. Beware however that if you are too internally controlled, you may tend to internalise your failures and dwell on them. Recognise that there will be events over which you have no control.
External
This is characterised by a high dependency on powerful others or influences for your success. For example if you have been on a diet and lost a lot of weight, you would credit a particular diet rather than your own determination for your success. When you succeed, you tend to take little or no ownership for the positive outcome. However by the same token, when you fail to lose weight, you tend to take little ownership. You feel your weight has nothing to do with your own choices. The diet ‘stopped working for you’. You will struggle to lose weight if you persist in this thinking. You can’t change a situation if you don’t acknowledge any responsibility. But when you recognise that your particular weight struggles may have little to do with anything outside yourself, your power to change is enormous.
Chance
With this mindset you are basically telling yourself that you have little or no belief in yourself or anything else. You probably don’t see any point in changing your diet, exercising or taking any personal responsibility for your health because you believe your situation has nothing to do with your behaviour or your choices. Every outcome is due to
fate. This mindset has nothing to do with self-discipline. It’s different from not wanting to change your habits because you don’t want to discipline yourself. Chance is a feeling of powerlessness: you don’t see the point of discipline and have no motivation to change. If this is how you are thinking, you have little chance of losing weight
as you don’t believe you have any control over it.
Think about your thought patterns and try to identify where they tend to fall in the above categories and whether they need nudging in a different direction.
