Slimzone Update - We are now in week 4 of 8 in the current slimming club and the response from everyone has been very positive! Unfortunately, the numbers in the current slimming club are now full so we can’t take on any new members until the next club which starts on the 15th of March. If you’re interested in joining the next slimming club please sign up at reception as soon as you can to avoid disappointment!

Race for Life - We are starting the ball rolling early for this year’s 5K charity run which will be held at the Don Valley Stadium on the 13th June! We’re trying to get as many members as possible involved this year and raise as much money as we can for cancer research UK. There will be a sign up form on the front desk for members who want to join in with the staff and other members who will be completing the run. Last year 6,000 ladies turned out from the Sheffield area raising over a quarter of a million pounds! Entry to the run costs £12.99

SHEFFIELD (MIDDLEWOOD RD)
What a great January! The past few weeks have been amazing in the gym, it has been great to see everyone using the new equipment and really putting it to the test! It has been nice to see lots of new faces in the gym, and welcoming back those members who haven’t been in for a while due to Christmas and the bad weather we had over the first couple of weeks of January. Let’s hope we have put all this behind us now and we can all start to focus on the “SUMMER”. Let’s think about getting out those summer clothes again. We want you all to look your best with the help of Ladyzone, if you think you are ready for a review please don’t hesitate in asking one of the girls to get you booked in.

Slimzone Club # 1 - Jane Elliott has lost a fantastic 7.1kg (15.6lbs) in 8 weeks, this was also over the Christmas period. The cash that she won she is putting towards her summer holiday. Pamela Turner and Jane had been battling it out every week to see who would be the biggest loser with Jane winning in the end. They both did exceptionally well! Pam lost a total of 4.8kg (10.5lbs) in the 8 weeks! The response from Slimzone 1 has been fantastic, with the first 8 week challenge coming to an end the majority of the members have decided to carry on with a 2nd 8 week challenge... if you would like to join the other members and lose kg/lbs together - please see a member of staff for more details.

Slimzone Club # 2  - We currently have two slimming clubs running at the same time. The first winner from our second club is Carole Robinson who lost week 1 with a loss of 1kg. Ladyzone will be awarding a FREE 'spa experience' to every winner so now there is even more incentive to shed the pounds! Good luck ladies!

LONDON (ORPINGTON)

Joanne Beatty 'Snowdon 500 Challenge' - We would like to introduce and ask for your support for Joanne Beatty with her new demanding training regime. Joanne joined us here in Orpington earlier this year to lose weight, improve fitness and help her train for an amazing physical and personal challenge. She is taking part in the Snowdon 500 Challenge! The challenge is to climb Mount Snowdon  and raise money to help raise awareness of prostate cancer and to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Research Centre. The Centre is carrying out research to help find a cure and improve the survival and quality of life of men with prostate cancer. From all the staff at Orpington we wish you the best of luck!

Orpington FC - Ladyzone have become proud sponsors of Orpington FC girls, who are aged 14 and 15 years old and play in the SEL Kent Under 15 girls league. Unfortunately, due to three other teams folding due to lack of players, they only had three teams in their division. Last Sunday, they played their final game and won, which kept their 100% record for the season going and have been crowned champions! The girls are proud to wear the shirt and enjoy their football.
They train on a Friday night at Darrick Wood School from 6pm to 7:30pm and play their home matches at Grassmead Park on a Sunday. They are always looking for new players, so if there are any girls who feel they can 'Bend it like Beckham' please come along. They have teams at under 13, under 15 and are trying to start an under 12 side.
WAKEFIELD
Tracey is running the London Marathon! Our very own member of staff Tracey is taking part in the Virgin London Marathon in aid of “Children with Leukaemia” to be held on   the 25th April this year. So come on ladies please sponsor Tracey! If you want to get involved and donate some money please ask at reception for a sponsorship form.

Race for Life Wakefield - For the first time “Race for Life” are holding an event in Wakefield on Sunday 23rd May at 10am. We at Ladyzone are going to be represented by all you ladies that can’t wait to get out there and take part in the 5k run.  Of course this run is compulsory for all the staff at Ladyzone in Wakefield – we don’t get away with it that easily!!
BRADFORD (SHIPLEY)
Slimzone – The New Year Weight Loss Challenge. We’ve had some fantastic results in the Slimzone New Year Challenge. Well done to Denise Craven who won the weekly hamper this week. She lost 6lbs in one week. Other ladies doing particularly well are Angela Jacques, Sabiha Khan and Gill Crawshaw. Keep up the good work!
Now if you’d like to join in, don’t worry about missing the first couple of weeks. You can join in anytime. Just come down anytime on Tuesday evenings between 5.00pm and 7.00pm or talk to a member of staff.

Race For Life - This year’s race for life will take place on Sunday 13th June, 10.30am at Lister Park. Walk, jog or run 5k to help beat cancer. Any one that has participated before will tell you that Race For Life is an amazing experience and I’d like to get a Ladyzone team together for this year’s event. You don’t need to be particularly fit. You can just take the course at your own pace and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere. It’s also a great goal to get fitter for. It may seem a little early to be thinking about summer already, but these events get sold out extremely early so we need to be quick! Entry costs £12.99 per person. This covers the cost of organising and running the event on the day, which means that the sponsorship money you raise will go directly towards our work into the prevention, treatment and cure of all forms of cancer. We’ll be organising transport to the event from the gym, so don’t let a little thing like how you’re going to get there put you off!  Please put your name on the list at the gym to join the team and we’ll give you details on how to go about registering.

 STAR JUMPS!

"This is a great ‘old school’ cardio exercise which really works the heart and lungs as well as conditioning the whole body

Stand with your legs together, knees ‘soft’ and arms by your sides. Take a small jump and land with the legs shoulder width apart and arms above the head. Take another small jump to return to the starting position with the legs together and arms by your sides. This is one repetition. Try to repeat as many times as you can.  Challenge yourself.  See how many you can do next time you’re watching the tv and the commercial breaks come on.

HEALTH & LIFESTYLE COACHING
What do you BELIEVE?
by Karen Halifax
I’ve mentioned in a previous newsletter that there are two main reasons why people struggle to lose weight. Firstly they may not want it enough to be willing to do whatever it takes. Secondly, they may not believe that they actually can. But why does it make a difference whether you believe it or not? As human beings we have an innate desire to always be right (just ask my husband!). If you don’t believe you can lose weight, subconsciously you will sabotage any efforts you make out of fear of failure. Your desire to be right outweighs your desire to be slim. In order to understand your beliefs, you need to start by understanding the way you see yourself. The greatest advantage you can have in life is to view yourself as special and to appreciate what those qualities are that distinguish you from every other person. When you believe in yourself 100%, when you have the highest possible regard for yourself and expect to be able to create a positive, successful life for yourself then anything becomes possible.

Sadly, very few people see themselves this way. Most people are far more willing to list their bad qualities and weaknesses then their good ones and their strengths. And this is the way people limit their potential and create frustration and failure. So how strong is your self-image? Are you convinced that you are who you are, determined by genes, birth and circumstance and impossible to change? My belief and experience is that we simply find the level in life that we are conditioned to find and we are led to expect. The current self-image you have is the result of the repeated messages and instructions you received as a child from the authority figures in your world. The way you see yourself today is the result of conditioning by your parents, teachers and other influential adults and peers in your life. Each one of us is powerfully programmed to be a certain way, to have certain beliefs and to take certain actions. And the only way to change childhood conditioning like this is to make the decision to be in charge of your own programming and to re-programme those thoughts and beliefs that hold you back.

Each one of us is powerfully programmed to be a certain way, to have certain beliefs and to take certain actions. And the only way to change childhood conditioning like this is to make the decision to be in charge of your own programming and to re-programme those thoughts and beliefs that hold you back. To root out any negative beliefs you have regarding your body, complete the following sentences.

“My top five most negative thoughts about my ability to lose weight or my looks are”

“Something I learned from my mother / father about my ability to lose weight or my looks is…”

“The main message I project to others about my ability to lose weight or my looks is…”

Were there any surprises there? Hold those thoughts. I’ll talk about how to change negative beliefs in the next issue.
