Spider-Woman!
Probably the bravest Ladyzone member in Widnes??? Meet Caroline Hall – like a real life spider woman she bravely abseiled in Yorkshire this summer to raise money for her son who has Myasthenia Gravis, a muscular condition. She says coming to Ladyzone helped her get fitter and prepare herself which inspired her to go for it!! Well done Caroline! – You are an inspiration to us all!
Book early for the Christmas party!
The event last year was fantastic and definitely not to be missed – don’t forget your disposable cameras! The date and venue has been confirmed for Saturday 5th December at St Michaels, Ditchfield Rd, Widnes.

LEEDS (PUDSEY)
LadyZone Pudsey Christmas Party
I know, I know. Summer is not even over and we’re already talking about Christmas. But I also know how booked up you ladies get and so we’re getting organised early this year (thanks to Helen!). The party will be on Friday 11th December at the North Sea Chinese Restaurant and includes a 4 course banquet (with vegetarian option) and dancing for £26. Friends and family welcome but numbers are limited so put your name down (and cough up...!) as soon as possible.
Free Spine Check Day
Alana Edwards from Body Resolve will be starting a chiropractor and sports massage practice at LadyZone and is offering members/friends/family the opportunity of a FREE spine check consultation on Tuesday 2nd September all day until 8.00pm. If you’ve ever had any major back or joint pain, or even just a few niggles, this is a great chance to get yourself checked out. To book your free consultation, call Alana on 07732 053005.
Great North Run
LadyZone member and all-round lovely, Rebecca Thresh is doing the Great North Run in aid of Cancer Research and is looking for sponsorship. It’s a half marathon so she has been training hard. Rebecca is a cancer survivor herself so it’s a charity that means a lot to her so I’d really appreciate giving her as much support as we can. You can either sponsor her in the gym or online at www.justgiving.com/rebthresh
We are on the ball this year and have already booked our Christmas party!! We were a little late last year so only had nibbles in the gym. This year we are putting on a great party and have booked Rusticos restaurant in Wakefield for the 4th December. We have had a massive response from the ladies and already have 60 names down. To avoid disappointment, make sure you get your name on the list and join the army of Ladyzone members who are going to be terrorizing the streets of Wakefield this winter!
Well done to Andrea Butler who has completed her sky dive at the age of 70 and has raised over £3000 for the holy land. We are all so proud of you.
£300 Raised!!
Our Ladies night was a huge success we have raised over £300 with money still coming in. We had manicurists and Holistic Therapist on the night offering our members mini treatments for £5 with all money donated to the Ruby Trust Fund. Ruby is a little girl who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is currently receiving treatment at Alder Hey Hospital. We would like to thank all our members for coming down and supporting the event.
Ladies still to come this year with LADYZONE:
• Hollywood Theme Party
• Open Week
• 10 Week Christmas Challenge
All events are starting soon so keep your eye on the notice board!
Well done to our brave members Carole Gaunt and Andrea Brown who managed to drag some of the Ladyzone Shipley staff (Corinne, Michelle & Stephen & Leanda) over the 25 mile Yorkshire 3 Peak Challenge last month! We all had a great day, got stuck in a few bogs and pushed our fitness to the limits. Special mention must be given to our amazing members - Carole Gaunt finished in an amazing 9 hours 36 minutes and Andrea Brown who finished in 9 hours 57 minutes – even running most of the last mile to get in under 10 hours – amazing for a woman who at the start of the year weighed 2 stone more and had never climbed a mountain!!! We have also collectively raised over £600 for the British Heart Foundation – massive thanks to the ladies who sponsored us!!
Gym Party Recognise any of the faces on this picture??? Nice outfits ladies!

Blessing has STAR QUALITY!
Well done to Blessing Braimah, she really is our star employee! Considering working for Ladyzone is her first job in fitness she has already made a significant impact on our members, so much so that some of them want to take her home!! Blessing has an intriguing story... born in Nigeria, she trained as an International Gymnast and whilst on a visit to the UK she liked it so much she decided to stay. She studied hard and is now a fully qualified fitness professional and is an inspiration to everyone, staff, members and management! (Back to Top)

I’ve talked before in newsletters about how relying on willpower to curb your craving for unhealthy food is setting yourself for a failure. The same is also true of committing to exercise. As I’ve said many times before, willpower is an unreliable emotional fuel that runs down, leaving you no better than you were before.
Hopefully this isn’t the case with your membership at LadyZone, but I’m sure it has happened before. How familiar does this sound? January 1st, you don the seldom worn tracksuit, and pound the pavement, sweat through a few exercise classes, or dare I say it, join a gym! However by Jan 31st, your willpower has snapped and you’ve gone back to couch potato status. I’ve certainly done it! When you try to change out of sheer willpower, you’re headed for certain failure. Permanent success doesn’t come from forcing yourself; it comes from programming yourself and your environment to do better. That is how you accomplish what you really want to do.
Programming an active lifestyle means incorporating exercise into your day to day life so that you can do it with as few changes or disruptions to your routine as possible. You set your life up so that exercise is as normal and routine as brushing your teeth.
It will come as no surprise that the number one excuse people give for not exercising is “I don’t have time.” If that’s what you’re thinking, my question for you is “Do you have time not to exercise?” If you don’t exercise, you are saying, in effect that you have time to stay overweight and that you have time at some point in your future for a long list of horrible diseases that exercise is known to prevent. If you don’t have time for exercise, ask yourself if you have time for heart disease, stroke, cancer or diabetes. If you don’t exercise with some degree of regularity, you are making a decision to compromise your quality of life today and in the future.
So let’s agree right now that you will schedule specific times during this week to exercise. Then I want you to protect that time just as you do your other important activities of daily living. For example, you would not even consider getting up in the morning and going to work without getting dressed, doing your make up or brushing your hair. You would never say, “I don’t have time to do my hair” or “I don’t have time to get dressed so I will wear my pyjamas to work.” Making time for exercise, then protecting that time – that is what is required here if you expect to start losing weight. No matter how hectic your life is, no matter how chaotic your schedule, you can make time, especially when it only takes half an hour at LadyZone. Bottom line: no excuses. What matters if you are to succeed is that you make the time and then you use the time.
Your decision to exercise must become so important that you are willing to carve out time in your schedule, several times a week, every week, to do it. That is what I want you to do. Take out your diary and write in times in which you will exercise. My rule for you is this: keep those appointments just as you do your other appointments with your doctor, dentist, and hairdresser. Let nothing interfere, absolutely nothing.
At first, exercising will bring on some pain and discomfort but this will subside as your brain counters these unpleasant feelings by producing natural chemicals called endorphins. The more you exercise, the stronger these pleasurable sensations become. You might not like exercising at first, but keep at it and before you know it, exercise will become the rule, rather than the exception in your life. Remember that your weight and overall health are sustained, positively or negatively by the lifestyle and environment you have set up. Creating a new physically active environment is critical to keeping your positive momentum going.
Planning and scheduling exercise is essential to your success because it provides structure, so as not to leave exercise to your own trial and error methods. A good exercise programme should be structured enough with time-protected exercise sessions so that it props you up and propels you forward during times when you don’t feel like exercising. You can’t miss your exercise session because it is already structured into your week. Scheduling exercise is an important self-discipline in achieving permanent weight loss and control.
Set up your environment for success by keeping a fresh set of workout clothes in your car and driving via the gym on your way from work. Or lay out your gym gear ready to jump into first thing in the morning so you don’t have to think about it. It just involves adjusting your lifestyle to make more room for exercise and to make it easy to exercise. Have cues or reminders in your environment – e.g. your exercise clothes in plain view or a route home that takes you via the gym. This makes it easy to fall into exercise with as little trouble as possible. (Back to Top)

Pauline says:
“I find it so easy to incorporate the 30 minutes into my daily routine. I shop at Somerfield next door and always tie the two in together. I’m lucky because I like doing exercise so I used to do exercise videos at home every day but now I use Ladyzone instead and find that it’s so much better than any workout video I’ve ever tried. The Ladyzone workout allows me to do both cardio and resistance training in only half an hour so I stay fit and stay toned. Thank you Ladyzone.”
