We’ve been listening carefully to your thoughts and comments and have now included a 6 Week Eating Diary with the Diet Plans. The ‘Ladyzone 6 Week Eating Diary & Weight Management Booklet’ is a handy A5 booklet which has been designed to help you plan your daily eating and exercise activity over a period of 6 weeks. Included within the booklet is a section to monitor and record your weekly weight loss.

PUDSEY
10 Week Weight Loss Challenge
We’ve had a phenomenal response to the weight loss challenge starting Thursday 29th Oct and I know that many of you have been disappointed to have missed out.  However you can still get hold of the new, exclusive LadyZone Weight Loss Plan and Eating Diary.  We will let you know if we can accommodate more ladies for the Thursday night sessions, but don’t let that stop you from getting into shape for Christmas!  Ask a member of staff for the Weight Loss Plan and Eating Diary, strictly one copy per member.  I look forward to reporting on all the wonderful weight loss results!

Staff Changes
I’m sure you all know that unfortunately due to a change in Helen’s circumstances, she has had to move on to a new job.  She thanks you all for your support and will hopefully be back soon!  She has kindly offered to help out when needed and will hopefully be in for a workout at least – sitting in her car all day, she’ll probably need it!  She’ll certainly be missed.  The photo of Helen and Pauline all glammed up was taken on her last day at Ivy Jones’ 60th Birthday Party.  Happy Birthday to Ivy too!

Free Spine Check Day
Due to the success of the previous spine check days, Alana, our resident Chiropractor, is offering another opportunity to get an MOT on your joints on Monday 16th November.  To take advantage of her offer, give her a call on 07732 053005.

Building Works
We will be doing some building work in the changing room on Wed 4th / Thur 5th November to create an additional treatment room and a proper changing room (if anyone needs a lot of blue screens, please get in touch!)  There should be minimal disruption but we will be using the beauty room as changing rooms while the work is going on and appreciate your understanding.

WAKEFIELD
Christmas Party
We now have 67 members attending our Christmas Party at Rusticos Italian Restaurant on 4th December. With such a great response we're sure that the night will be a blast! We hope you’re all looking forward to a good time!

Got any old bras or basques???
Ladyzone are supporting the Yorkshire Air Ambulance by asking lady members and their friends/relations to empty their drawers of any old bras so we can help raise vital funds for a brilliant cause. Many women don’t realise there is a strong market for second-hand bras, therefore most are just thrown away with household waste. We’re helping to raise awareness that second-hand bras are actually in demand, particularly in West Africa, where traders can buy and sell quality used garments at affordable prices, whilst raising vital funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity. All styles, colours and sizes wanted!

STOKE ON TRENT

I’m not actually on any diet any more just eating properly” Leanne has lost an amazing 3 Stone, 27 Inches, 4% Body Fat and 4 Dress sizes….WOW!!

STOKE CITY LADIES v’s LADYZONE
We have teamed up together with Stoke City Ladies to help them reach the top this season. Vicky Mitchell Manager of Stoke City Ladies says; “Stoke City Ladies are proud to be sponsored by Ladyzone at Hanley in Stoke-On-Trent. Stoke City Ladies hugely benefitted from this sponsor last season as Ladyzone helped out in all the individual training target points the girls had to achieve themselves. Stoke City ladies enhanced their ability, strength and co-ordination with LadyZone and each player was tested before the use of the gym and was kept a keen eye on their performance each time they used it and worked out the whole of their body. I believe that the team’s outings to LadyZone helped in the performance and ultimately helped them gain the all important winning of the League last season and the Staffordshire County Cup too. We look forward to utilising Ladyzone in our fight for survival in a much tougher league.” All members and staff wish them look for the season.

Thanks to all those who kindly donated delicious treats and cakes without whom we couldn’t have raised so much money for breast cancer care. Also a special mention to Patricia Hobson who has provided us with the snaps above – the pictures could be proof that fairies do really exist!

The ‘Breakthrough Generations’ Study
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women in the UK; over 40,000 new cases are diagnosed every year. The disease will affect 1 in 9 women at some point in their life. In recent years scientists have made progress in diagnosing and treating the disease they need to understand much more about what causes it. The ‘Breakthrough Generations’ study will investigate the causes of breast cancer on a large scale and women aged 16 and over are being invited to participate. To take part ladies should go to:  www.breakthrough.org.uk or speak to Eccelsall Rd member Joyce Arnold... or a member of staff who can point you in Joyce’s direction!

Weekly Weigh in Updates
This has been very popular and the money in the pot is growing. The great thing about the weekly weigh ins is the positive and supportive attitude of all those that are taking part and with the pot of money growing there’s a great chance you could get some extra cash to help out at Christmas this year. So come one - it’s still not too late to join in and get into the positive frame of mind and motivation.

The Christmas Party
It's creeping up on us and numbers must now be finalised!!! Please can you get your tickets to Diane as soon as possible or let her know that you are coming. For those that don’t want to come on their own you can now bring along a friend... as long as they are female of course!

LONDON (ORPINGTON)
Carol Battersby wins herself a photography shoot with lime photographics!

Pictured above (before she joined Ladyzone!) is our member of the month for September - Carol Battersby, sunning herself in the Dominican Republic. Because of her marvelous effort and dedication in the gym we've decided to award her with a photoshoot to Lime Photographics in Orpington. Carol has been with us since day one and this is our little way of saying thankyou, no doubt we'll be publishing her 'after' shots next month!

Here's what Carol has to say about Ladyzone Orpington:

"I had been to lots of gyms in the past but I hated the pressure to work out for hours and get all sweaty. My husband said ‘go and see what it’s like’ so I made the appointment and went along. I was impressed on how the gym looked, It had a pleasant atmosphere and I really wanted to be a part of it. The staff there were great too, they really helped in any way they could. Then Ayesha was appointed as manageress, she made a big difference to me. If she saw I was not using the correct posture or I was not using the right muscles she would just come to me and say ‘Carol try this or remember to point your toes when you do that, pull your tummy in, you work your muscles better that way’ - everything she suggested made a difference, and I could feel my body responding. She leads a great team and I for one feel confident that I will get the help and encouragement I need from her as I continue to use the gym. Thanks for all your support Ayesha - you’ve been great."

HEALTH & LIFESTYLE COACHING
Who is in your Circle of Support?
Whenever you begin to take charge of your weight and health, not all the people in your life will like it. If fact, some may be-little your efforts, some may make fun of you, some may tell you that your destined to failure and some may encourage you to eat food you don’t need. But these attitudes don’t mean that the people in your life are mean or evil: it’s just that they don’t want things to change. They are comfortable with the way things are. People truly fear change, especially if it affects their relationships and lifestyle, and they will become frightened and will refuse to accept you’re changing the status quo. Maybe your husband worries that he will lose you to another man if you trim down. Maybe your Mum thinks you don’t love her anymore if you refuse her freshly baked cakes.

But no matter what the situation, you need to be very careful not to let others in your life deter you from the task of managing your weight. You can be sensitive to their fears, but you must let them be responsible for their own feelings. This is about you, your weight and your health. It is not about them.

To move forward in achieving your weight loss, you need people in your life that will support you – friends, family members, Gym Instructors (!). And you also need to be aware that there may be ‘saboteurs’ in your life. Some common types of saboteur are:

The Food Pusher – This type of saboteur is the most common. Your colleagues who encourage you to get the chocolate bar at the vending machine during a coffee break, or the friends who insist that going out for dinner has to involve the most decadent of desserts. These are difficult to deal with as they seem so well-intentioned and are usually people you trust. You don’t want to hurt their feelings. Understand that usually food pushers want to please themselves: either by way of compliments on their cooking, or by loving you with food. But you must be strong. Be kind when you can, but firm when you must.

The Control Freak – The person is only interested in controlling your behaviour and sabotaging your weight loss attempts out of fear of change. Again, this is probably someone who loves you – your spouse who is worried that you will become too attractive if you lose weight. If you have a Control Freak, learn to evaluate the messages you get from them. Are they telling you that you can’t lose weight because you can’t or because he or she will feel threatened if you do? Be forthright. You may have to reassure them that yes, things are changing, but this does not mean that your relationship will change.

The Green-Eyed Monster – These are usually friends who are too unmotivated to address their own weight problems and feel jealous and resentful when they see you start to take charge of your health. They are not really happy about your success – although they might be outwardly supportive – and will try to undermine your efforts. This may take the form of words like “You’re losing too much weight”, or “You look too thin”, or “Don’t you think you’re taking this diet thing too seriously”. Or they may try to push food. Tell the Green-Eyed Monster that their behaviour will affect your relationship if it doesn’t stop. Don’t be deterred from achieving your own weight loss goals just because someone else is too afraid or unmotivated to go after their own.

The Statue – There may be people who will not encourage you to change because they want – consciously or otherwise – to maintain the status quo. They are called Statues because they turn rigid and inflexible whenever you want to make positive lifestyle changes. If you’re the family cook for example, and you’ve decided that everyone is going to eat healthier meals, it might not be long before your family hatches a conspiracy to “get Mum off her diet”. Once you decide to make a change, some of the people in your life will resist that change. You may get messages like “You’re no fun anymore”. Winning support from Statues is tough, particularly if you’ve tried to lose weight in the past but have failed. As with any kind of sabotage, this type of pressure can make you less likely to stick to the changes you want to make. The key is to never to let anyone take your commitment to your health away from you, especially not for the sake of their own comfort.

Do you have any saboteurs in your life? Decide what kind of response you might give them. Can you avoid them altogether? Will you sit down with them and explain what you’re doing and why you want to make changes? Will you figure out some gracious way of saying ‘no’ when food is pushed your way. Being prepared is the key to taking control back.
